About Wereld-Prijzen

We help travellers, expats and the curious compare the cost of living and travel costs in 195 countries and 13 000+ cities - clearly, transparently and free of charge.

Onze missie

Wereld-Prijzen was built around a simple idea: it should be easy to find out what life really costs in another country before you go there. Whether you are planning a holiday, considering relocation, comparing two destinations or just curious how far your salary would stretch elsewhere, the data should be one click away - without paywalls, account walls or twenty pop-ups.

We aggregate consumer-price information across food and groceries, restaurants, transport, rent, utilities, salaries, leisure and travel costs, and present it in a single, consistent, comparable format.

Hoe wij werken

Each page combines several layers of data: a global cost-of-living dataset that is refreshed regularly, country-level macro indicators (currency, exchange rates, taxes), city-level price points and editorial commentary that puts those numbers in context.

  • Prices are normalised into the local currency of each country and converted into common reference currencies (USD, EUR) for comparability.
  • Outliers are filtered using statistical thresholds; only entries with sufficient sample sizes are surfaced.
  • Data is refreshed continuously; each country and city page shows a "last updated" indicator.
  • Where information is uncertain or sparse, it is flagged or omitted rather than guessed.

Gegevensbronnen

We rely on a combination of well-established public datasets and our own aggregation:

  • Numbeo - the largest crowdsourced cost-of-living database, used as a primary signal for consumer prices.
  • OpenExchangeRates / public FX feeds - currency conversions.
  • OpenStreetMap & national statistical offices - geographic and demographic context.
  • Editorial review - manual sanity checks and country-specific context written by our team.

Redactie

The site is run by a small editorial team of travellers, software engineers and translators spread across Europe. Because of the volume of harassment and spam this kind of site attracts, individual team members are not listed publicly. Editorial decisions, fact-checking and translation work are coordinated under the publisher.

Ons verhaal

Wereld-Prijzen is part of a network of multilingual cost-of-living sites that started in 2013. Over the years it has been used by tens of thousands of travellers, students, remote workers and recruiters every month to compare destinations and plan budgets.
